EQUANS has signed an EPC for the renovation of 50 public buildings and is committed to reducing energy consumption by between 12 and 53% per year. A first in Belgium!

Heating and electricity often represent a financial drain for schools. To help institutions reduce their bills, EQUANS offers global, long-term solutions. How does it work? It’s simple: we take care of everything. This is notably the case in Liège where, through an Energy Performance Contract (EPC), 27 educational, sports or administrative establishments will drastically reduce their CO2 emissions with guaranteed results.

What is an EPC?

An EPC is a contract in which EQUANS undertakes to improve the energy efficiency of one or more buildings. It all starts with a thorough audit of the facilities, during which we calculate the potential energy savings in the building. Using this information, we carry out the renovation works and take care of the maintenance of all equipment throughout the duration of the contract. In exchange, we commit to the total amount of annual savings to be achieved.

And when it comes to savings, there’s plenty to do! The work carried out by EQUANS as part of the RenoWatt pilot project will reduce energy consumption by between 12 and 53%. Heat pumps, high-performance double-glazed windows, roof and exterior wall insulation, photovoltaic panels, cogeneration units… There’s a long list of renovations. In some schools, we even install intelligent lighting or heating that can be programmed according to the school’s schedules and needs.

Who's paying?

As part of the RenoWatt project, our clients chose to invest in the renovations themselves. Thanks to the energy saved, this will quickly pay for itself. EQUANS provides a service support, which includes maintenance of the equipment for 15 years to ensure that the predicted savings are actually realised. And if we don’t reach the goal? We will refund the difference. If we exceed it? We share the profits. This is a great way to reassure our customers and help them take one step further towards the energy transition.
