Electrification in buildings
Electrify heating, cooling, ventilation, and building processes where it makes technical and economic sense, and enhance your energy supply with on-site generation. With smart monitoring, you continuously optimise. This reduces your CO₂ impact, makes costs predictable, and moves your building towards a fully electric, future-proof, and value-retaining ecosystem.Electrification in buildings
Electrify heating, cooling, ventilation, and building processes where it makes technical and economic sense, and enhance your energy supply with on-site generation. With smart monitoring, you continuously optimise. This reduces your CO₂ impact, makes costs predictable, and moves your building towards a fully electric, future-proof, and value-retaining ecosystem.
Challenges for electrification in buildings
The future of buildings is electric. Fossil fuel boilers are set to be phased out by 2040, and since 2025, new gas connections have been banned in Flanders. On top of that, geopolitical developments have made the energy market increasingly unpredictable. Coupled with tightening CO₂‑standards and stricter EPBD and EPC requirements, fossil heating is becoming more costly, risky, and less valuable each year. Buildings that don’t electrify will inevitably face limits imposed by regulations, comfort expectations, expansion possibilities, and market value.
Yet, electrification remains a challenge. Investments aren’t straightforward, grid capacity can be constrained, and decisions often involve multiple stakeholders—financial, operational, technical, and strategic. While electrification is essential, the path forward isn’t always clear.
Efficient electrification
Electrification isn’t something you do all at once. It requires careful planning and a step-by-step approach. Only in this way can you transform efficiently towards a fossil-free, CO₂-neutral, and largely self-sufficient energy system.
It all starts with real data: heat demand, cooling load, electrical profiles, occupancy, and available grid capacity. Based on this information, you determine the sequencing, sizing, and integration of all electrical functions. This ensures the transition is both technically sound and economically viable, while always keeping the building fully operational.
On-site generation plays a crucial role in this. The more electricity a building produces itself—for example, through sustainable sources like solar energy or geothermal—the stronger the foundation for electrification, and the more predictable the impact on costs and CO₂ emissions. That’s why efficient electrification demands clear insight, seamless integration, and flawless execution.
Smart control and energy flexibility
Electrification delivers the greatest benefits when a building can manage its electricity demand flexibly. Smart control through a building management system (BMS) is essential to achieve this.
Through intelligent control and monitoring, thermal buffers for heating and cooling, PV generation, and battery storage, you create an energy profile that is more stable, less prone to peaks, and better aligned with both comfort requirements and grid conditions. This allows you to use more of your own electricity, avoid expensive tariff periods, and create structural capacity for further electrification—from HVAC to mobility and smart building applications.
