Enhanced energy efficiency for reduced CO₂ emissions
Are you looking to reduce your industrial site or building's energy bill, reduce your CO₂ emissions and become less dependent on fluctuating energy markets? Do you have heat requirements and want to be more eco-friendly by electrifying your processes, but are unable to sufficiently reinforce your connection to the power grid?
Cogeneration ranks among the innovative solutions that also make it possible for you to actively participate in the energy transition. Equans specialises in biogas and natural gas cogeneration. With over twenty years of experience applying this technology in both tertiary and industrial sectors, the company offers an integrated solution, from feasibility studies to preventive and corrective maintenance, including 24/7 emergency interventions.
Heating and electricity in a single solution
The cogeneration principle is based on the simultaneous production of two forms of energy (electricity and thermal energy) from a single primary energy resource (natural gas, biomass, or biogas). An engine or turbine (gas, for example) drives a generator that produces electricity. This local production proves more economical as there are no energy transport or distribution costs. Thermal energy is valorised as hot water and/or steam to power industrial processes.
This technology simultaneously generates electricity and heat, leading to considerable energy savings compared to a situation where you draw electricity from the public grid and produce heat using a conventional boiler.
Beyond powering your own facilities, cogeneration plants can also generate additional revenue by selling surplus electricity to the network operator when electrical production is low and when market prices are favourable.
A solution that is available to small businesses and service companies
Cogeneration is not limited to large energy and heat consumers. This technology is accessible to all economic sectors and companies of any size.
After thoroughly analysing energy needs and consumption profiles, Equans can propose this technological solution to highly diverse stakeholders, including healthcare facilities. The company is also flexible enough to meet the specific needs of any kind of clientele. We guarantee the performance and availability of the infrastructure, as well as advanced remote management solutions.
The advantages of cogeneration
Optimised energy efficiency
Cogeneration can lead to primary energy savings of 15% to 20%.
Reduced CO₂ emissions
Decentralised heat and electricity production, combined with improved energy efficiency, means that CO₂ emissions from infrastructure energy consumption can be reduced by 25%.
Energy bill reduced by up to 30%
Thermal energy, usually lost during electrical conversion, is fully recovered to heat the building or produce hot water. Most of the electricity produced is consumed by the company itself, thus avoiding grid distribution costs.
