EQUANS has been developing an integrated approach for Mölnlycke Health Care's Belgian site and optimising the pharmaceutical giant's performance levels.
Mölnlycke Health Care is a global leader within the pharmaceutical industry, specialising in single-use medical solutions. At its Belgian production plant in Waremme, three production lines continuously manufacture surgical drapes and gowns. As manager for technical equipment, EQUANS has been overseeing these facilities for over 30 years. Recently, the company chose to renew its confidence in the project by entering a new contract that will redefine its working methods in terms of maintenance and subcontracting. The goal? To reduce the cost of its equipment by 12% over three years, improve its energy efficiency and guarantee its production quality.
Facility Coordinator
Although this is a new concept for the factory, requiring a change in its organisation, it will all be worth it. As part of this new contract, Mölnlycke Health Care has decided to entrust all of its non-core activities to one of our Facility Coordinators. EQUANS teams are now responsible not only for the maintenance of technical equipment (electrical installations, ventilation and air treatment, heating/cooling techniques, steam production and security), but also for the coordination of soft services (site surveillance, cleaning of premises, catering, waste management, etc.). The advantage of this? It enables Mölnlycke Health Care to fully dedicate its focus to its operations, all while improving its overall performance.
Vision cockpit
To facilitate the creation of a global vision, a series of digital tools have been implemented within the factory. Thanks to the implementation of our latest Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), customer data is now accessible, in real time, from a secure platform that optimally combines all our operations. With just one tool, Mölnlycke Health Care is able to gain an overview of its equipment’s condition. Dedicated dashboards also allow them to access indicators such as air or water quality, which are essential in ensuring product traceability within a pharmaceutical plant.
Conditional Maintenance
And that is not all. As an integrator of multi-technical solutions, EQUANS has also placed sensors on the building’s critical equipment. The goal? To develop condition-based maintenance, thereby anticipating the slightest fault and predicting failures well before they occur. With this system, costly production line stoppages are a thing of the past. It is now possible to detect anomalies, optimise the facilities’ operation and improve the equipment’s energy efficiency.
Performance Contract
Ensuring operational performance and energy efficiency is one of the pillars of EQUANS’ activity within the industrial sector. The holistic approach we have implemented at Mölnlycke Health Care is a very good example of this. Key performance indicators (KPI), progress plans, improvement paths… Thanks to this performance contract, equipment costs at the Waremme plant should decrease by 12% over the next three years, all without affecting the quality of production. This is excellent news for a sector that is constantly under pressure.
