Strategic energy storage as a lever for industrial performance
Electrification, volatile energy prices and grid constraints are turning energy into a strategic priority for industry. With a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), companies regain control over energy consumption, cost and continuity. In Vilvoorde, Equans supported the delivery of Belgium’s largest battery park, an emblematic project showing how energy storage is becoming a key building block for a future-ready industry.
Industrial growth meets energy constraints
Industrial companies face peak pricing, grid congestion and increasingly demanding sustainability targets. At the same time, electrification is accelerating the shift to electricity-driven processes. Without flexibility, companies risk higher costs, production losses and barriers to growth investment.
A scalable BESS as a strategic asset
For ENGIE, Equans delivered the technical backbone of a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System. From grid connection and substations to the integration of all electrical and supporting systems, Equans turns complex energy infrastructure into reliable, scalable BESS solutions, giving industrial clients the flexibility they need.
More control, lower costs, future readiness
A BESS enables companies to store energy intelligently and deploy it strategically. The result: lower energy costs, better use of renewable energy, improved security of supply, and a robust response to grid constraints and market volatility.
Frequently asked questions about Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Do you have any questions about our Battery Energy Storage Systems? We’d be happy to explain everything clearly and simply.
Do you still have any questions?
A battery park becomes relevant as soon as you face variable energy generation, grid congestion, peak demand or the ambition to maximise the use of locally generated energy. It adds strategic flexibility to your energy management and supports both operational continuity and sustainability goals.
Energy storage makes it possible to store renewable energy when it is abundantly available and use it when demand peaks. This increases the share of green energy in your energy mix, without relying on fossil back-up capacity.
A battery park helps smooth peak demand, manage grid costs and use energy strategically when prices are high. That creates a more resilient and predictable energy cost over the full lifetime of the installation.
Integration requires in-depth expertise in electrical infrastructure, grid connection and system architecture. Equans manages this end-to-end, with a strong focus on safety, compatibility and minimal impact on your existing installations.
Modern battery parks are modular and can be expanded in phases. This keeps investment aligned with the evolution of your production capacity, electrification roadmap and future regulation.
Risks mainly relate to safety, grid interaction and lifecycle management. Through robust design, correct sizing and strict safety standards, Equans ensures reliable, controlled operation.
Yes. Equans supports industrial clients from study and engineering to delivery, maintenance and optimisation. This long-term approach secures performance, availability and maximum value across the entire lifetime of the asset.
