EQUANS and its consortium partner Smulders are building an offshore transformer substation for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm. The substation will set sail to the wind farm in spring 2022, which will be connected to the grid in 2023.
First large-scale offshore wind farm in Brittany
The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm is the first large-scale offshore wind farm in Brittany and one of the first in France to obtain all the necessary permits. It covers a total area of 75 km² and will consist of 62 wind turbines with a total capacity of 496 MW.
A proven consortium
The contract was awarded by Ailes Marines, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, to the consortium formed by EQUANS and Iemants (a subsidiary of Smulders). The consortium is responsible for the engineering, construction, installation, commissioning and testing of the substation. EQUANS is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, integration and testing (onshore and offshore) of all low-voltage, medium-voltage and high-voltage systems and auxiliaries for the jacket and topside of the substation. Iemants is responsible for the engineering and construction of the steel structures for the topside structure and the jacket.
Electricity for 835,000 inhabitants
The work has already started. The sail-away of the substation is foreseen for the spring-summer of 2022 and the commissioning of the offshore wind farm in 2023. The expected energy production will amount to 1850 GWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants, including heating.
