EQUANS provides a sustainable and comfortable setting for visitors to the indoor space of the largest theme park in Belgium.
Adventure Valley Durbuy, owned by none other than Marc Coucke’s La Petite Merveille (LPM), opened a new 5000 m² building in June 2021. This indoor recreational space, equipped with the latest technologies in the areas of ventilation and cooling/heating techniques, offers excellent energy performance. EQUANS undertook the study and installation of the sanitary and HVAC facilities.
Multi-purpose play area
The new Adventure Valley Durbuy space has something for everyone: children’s playground, lasergame, bowling, fast tag, escape rooms, restaurant and meeting room. Although the opening had been postponed for a year due to the health crisis, it is now a done deal! Since 9 June 2021, children and adults can now enjoy this new hub for indoor activities with heating, air-conditioning and ventilation entirely undertaken by EQUANS.

Reconciling customer requirements
It all began with a request for a proposal to which EQUANS provided a favourable response. The company LPM allowed its suppliers great freedom in selecting the systems proposed. Thus, our teams were able to design an innovative solution that met the customer’s needs in terms of performance, energy efficiency and budget.
Environmentally-friendly and economical ventilation system
With regard to ventilation, the selected solution is based on high-performance ventilation units and an air distribution system using high induction micro-perforated ducts. This system, proposed in collaboration with our partner Sintra (represented in Belgium by Energy Solutions), offers excellent air distribution and low consumption for both heating and cooling. The cherry on the cake: the ventilation installed is perfect for the pandemic period since it makes it possible to stay below 600 ppm.

Two condensing boilers
The heating is provided by two butane gas boilers from Buderus with a total power of 500 KW. These boilers have the advantage of combining compactness, hydraulic robustness and simplicity. Furthermore, they are equipped with a modulation range from 1 to 6, which ensures lower consumption and more flexible dimensioning of the power. Thanks to particularly efficient combustion (NOx emissions of less than 40 mg/kWh), they are eligible for BREEAM certification (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method), essential in the evaluation of the environmental performance of buildings.
Optimisation of performance
The installation control system is completely digital and based on the TCP/IP protocol. Be it the temperature of a room, of a space or even of the boiler, each setting can be adjusted remotely using just an Internet browser. The tool also enables the identification of any problems and gives technicians early warning that their intervention is required. It can all be connected to a building management system, if necessary.

Low-carbon transition
Ventilation, boilers, hot water production, chiller and even rain water harvesting… With this project, EQUANS has once again demonstrated it ability to offer global and personalised support to each customer. By reducing the energy consumption of Adventure Valley Durbuy, it is also enabling LPM to contribute to creating a more sustainable future, from the “smallest city in the world”.
